Service to Man equals Service to God
How true it is that people speak their hearts out when they are frustrated and angry! "Service to man equals Service to God" was the topic I was given to write about in an inter school Competition. I was irritated and also found it amusing that people are talking and just talking about the issue and none of them seemed to come forward to lead the mob to the next step. These were my exact emotions as I prepared to inscribe my rather reformist ideas on the given topic in the hope that it would at least make people rethink their conventional systems if not pioneer a new era. So,
In my opinion, Service is what I
think as being good and doing good. Many popular thinkers and philosophers
chose to follow the highly beloved principle of “Service to man as Service to
God”. That’s because they realized the true path to salvation. They
realized the true power of being Human. “Serve man, and you will become the
Almighty for Him”, said Swami Vivekananda. How true! What use is it serving an
idol with milk, which then goes into the drain? Would it cost us more to pour
the milk into a poor man’s mouth that needs it more than the idol? I would
rather feed hundreds of thousands than a single person, because I trust the
goodness of being.
People have always acclaimed the youth, especially educated
youth as “The Future”, “The Pillars of the society”. I am a youngster. And I am
what the people acclaim as “the power house of a society”. If this is true, I
believe that I can Change and also bring about rather quintessential changes.
Our conventionally set minds believe that God wants milk, that He needs “Naivedyams”
to be presented to him. But Does He? I don’t think so. I don’t understand the
concept of feeding God! Do people consider it a way of showing their Gratitude?
God created the men with ability and the men with Hungry stomach ready to work,
because he believed that his children…the men with ability would help his other
children. However, we chose to show our Gratitude to God. We needn’t. Service
to his Children is service to the father. Would any kind of a father demand
good for himself leaving his children to suffer? If a human father places his
children before his life, how could God, The father of the all living beings, the
man who is above all transience demand gratitude? It doesn’t make sense.
Service just doesn’t imply helping the poor and the
unfortunate people. Service is acting with your heart and placing your heart
above your mind. Tending to your mother’s needs is service. Helping your
classmate in his lessons is service. The only source of abundant happiness is
Service. We leave the place where happiness is abundant to be forsaken…in the
hearty smile of a man. The man, who understands this, is the eldest son of Almighty.
Service is omnipresent. Service just doesn’t reside in one place. It doesn’t
reside in an orphanage or in old age homes or in slums. It resides in the heart
of the man who considers the world to be his family.
